RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

It's nice to hear such reports. I think your initial reports of the SS in the R54 convinced me of what I already knew, that I had to get the SS on my A-4. Really, the thrust was one thing but the...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

I can offer personal perspective on the first two questions:

1) Yes. 10 degrees for takeoff. Not necessary on pavement, but takeoff run is a little shorter with flaps as expected. I never...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

I've got 92 ounces of fuel in my Tam A-4 main tanks and I always land with at least 16-20 ounces above and beyond my UAT when I set the timer for 7 minutes - so I'm burning maybe a little more than...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Did you use the same timer setting on your flights? What was your fuel burn difference? I bet you used more- it would be impossible not to use the thrust when you have it... Though based on what...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

I like the R54 lines in flight. It looks short coupled for interesting 1950's era fighter type looks, but it flies sooo nice.

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Great little engines aren't they. 25 Hours seems pretty reasonable for bearings. Thanks!

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Hi Tommy, I have a Supersport in another airframe, great engine! How much time did you have on your SS before the bearings started to make noise?

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Hi Tom, the biggest advantage to struts is pavement ops. I first flew my R54 on wire gear and later added Robostruts and retrofitted a new Dreamworks trailing link strut to the nose gear. It...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Ohhh, I have a Wren Supersport as well but I wish I could say the same thing about a Cris Craft Supersport!! My wife and I love the classic wooden boats, we live by a large population of "woodies"...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

I've had JR servos fail badly too! I have jets with JR and Hitec. You just have to go with what works for ya. And be vigilant when a servo starts acting up - even slightly. Change it out if you...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Just in case anyone is looking for a turn key, modified R54, here is a link to mine. I'll probably list it on RCU in a week after I finish up a work trip.

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

No worries. I've spent some of the best times of my life in NZ!! Amazing place, one of the jewells of planet Earth in my opinion. One question however - how can you have the nicest people in the...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Looks great!!! The good suggestions about contrasting graphics will help you see it in flat light, and it's also going to stick out very well on sunny blue sky days by itself. I love camoflauge and...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Can't beat the price and weight of a wire strut. But, on a paved runway, the standard Robostruts, modified per this thread (and BT's index for this thread on his website), are an improvement. They...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

I've installed the bigger Kevlar tank too - clunk facing the back of the tank. Thing is, the R54, especially with large flap settings, can approach the runway in a fairly nose low attitude. So if...

Hi Maxvertical, when you get the chance please post a pic of your glossed and beautiful R54 on the ramp ready for flight. The colors look great and the completed product must be gratifying for you :D

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

I use crow on all my jets. I have a Bandit/Electra type that uses crow mixed into the flaps, no extra switches, and on that jet it is required IMHO. My Reaction uses crow as selected by myself on...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

The biggest advantage I see in building the wood version is the weight savings and money savings. A P-60 or Wren 54 will easily fly the wood version on less fuel and less money for better...
