RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Michael,
You didn't mention which version of the R54 you were buying. The ARF version comes with composite tanks and has a retract system available with brakes from PST for $650. The balsa kit...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

This is a bash of Tharpe's Delta. Added a nose section and canard. The canard will supplement the elevons, elevator only. A PST 600R will power it. I'll place a rotating beacon on the top of the...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Bob,
What size canopy did you use? The size seems perfect for the fuselage.

Also, can the rotating beacon controllers be synchronized? Something like having strobe lights pulsing at the...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

OK Bob, what is the downside of a flicker? Isn't that how the effect is made...with a bit of a flicker? Fade out the light and then brighten it to a flicker. As long as it gets my attention then...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

As I understand the system, the rotating beacon controller can be used as a stand alone system. It is not necessay to have it plugged into the larger light system controller. I plan to use just the...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Bob,
Did you connect the rotating beacons directly to the airborne battery pack? It would seem like a good idea to have them connected to the battery and have a visual indication the battery...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

bw5493, welcome to the Reaction gang. I think you are in for a real treat...the Reaction is a great airplane. I wouldn't worry about the spoiler/flap, the plane is a bit of a floater so the extra...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Something I always wanted to experiment with are spoilers on the R54. I finally got around to it with airframe #3. The spoiler well is centered above the bottom wing hatch just aft of the top spar....

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

The notch is open to allow the turbine starter wires to pass through. Makes for a neat setup for the engine.

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

This is my third R54. First one was stock, the second one I clipped the wing tips and added winglets, this one is going to have intakes and some curvature to the canopy/hatch. It seems no matter...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Dave,
FIVE OF THEM!....YOU MUST REALLY LIKE THEM! A REAL REACTION GUY. The reason I'm building a third is my first R54 had a mid-air. Otherwise I would be happy with two. Bruce is sending me a...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Tommy,
Just wondering how the strut modification is going. Have you installed the struts?

I've had great success with the Robart retracts and struts. However, I will try using electric...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Tommy,
I use the same retracts but use Robart 660 struts. The strut cutout in the wing will need to be modified for the scissors, not too much though. I used Trim brakes but any brake that will...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Bob,
How well does the Elmer's GEL sand? Some white glues will gum up and score the balsa surface while sanding.

Thanks,
Keith

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

John,
The 660 struts are easy to modify to fit the R54. What retains the spring is an inner aluminum tube which fits the inside diameter of the strut tube. As you noted, that inner tube is cut...
