RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Eddie:

There does not seem to be any difference in the flare. For the record, the original CG was at 7". I fly the R54 with the following control surface deflections. I don't use exponential....

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Excellent point Eddie - I didn't even think about that. The original cover weighs 6oz and the canopy version weighs 14oz. The CG moved forward about ¼", and that would account for some of the need...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

I was able to fly my R54 with the modified canopy today. I copied the original Futaba 9c program to retain the original in the event that there were significant trim changes. With the new canopy,...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Thanks Eddie - the idea came from you! The front half of the canopy is just clear plastic sheet, the rear half is most of a Sig 15" bubble canopy. I made the formers from 1/4" aircraft grade ply....

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Thanks to inspiration from Eddie P, I now have 2 R54's. OK maybe only 1.01 R54's but with two distinct personalities. From one angle, it almost seems to have a Voodoo appearance.

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

FWIW, I mounted the Revolution antenna at a slight angle from horizontal as ahown in the attached photograph with good results.

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Redline 7000:

The roundel is 3½" Diameter (Blue) 2-3/8" (White). My R54 is an Ultrcote overcast with Monokote trim sheet for the roundel and blue striping and lettering.

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

I've found that 45º landing flap combined with 7/16" crow allows the Reaction to slow to a crawl without any tip stalling tendencies. You can see the crow in the attached photographs. It will stop...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

I located the retract air tank behind the upper hatch - lots of space and the tank is light. The brake tank is below the shelf on the RH side. Also added a 16oz round fuel tank on the LH side.

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Thanks to Bruce Tharpe for a great flying jet. I was finally able to test fly my R54 today after a series of weather (dry grass) problems and a minor engine problem. As expected from other accounts,...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Here's a Canadian version - in standard "Snowbirds" scheme. (Our airforce could possibly afford R54's)!
A week or two away from the test flight still.

The grass North of the border isn't as...
