RC Specialist............................Your Corsair looks great. I have ordered the Graupner 14x7 3 blade prop for the Saito 100. The MA prop is good too. I'm adding flaps, finished the left wing so far, quite a big job. My retracts are the Sierra 95 degs. rotaters.
Any pictures of the right side of the fuse with the Saito showing ?.

mike early.....................please explain why the MA 14X7 3 BLADE will give you more RPMs. Same radious, same pitch. Is it designed differently ?. I know that the MA is a bit cheaper, probably because of different composites. My question is which one is more efficient ?. Price has nothing to do. Is the Graupner a bit wider ?. I have not seen these two props in person. My LHS did'nt carry any of these props, so I cannot comment.

Garth, the MA has skinny blades compared to the Graupner, the Graupner is the way to go and looks much better.

The Graupner will load that engine up, compared to the MA. I found the graupner 14x7x3 was too much prop for my Saito 125. Static RPM at 600 ft elevation was no more than 8200-8400, if I remember correctly. I think there was somewhere around 1000 RPM difference.

I ended up using the MA 14x9x3 and it appears to be the perfect 3-bladed prop for the Saito 125.

I know a fellow that uses the MA 13x8 3-bladed prop on this Saito 100 and is happy.

I am looking to buy my 3rd Saito. Hooray.

The plane it will go in can take a few different sizes effectively, but the Saito .82 seems the best choice. I am concerned about the plastic backplate on that engine. Seems folks have issues with them. Are all of them plastic? Isn't the .72 the same case dimensions?

Hobbsy...............that's what I thought too. Read somewhere that it looks more scale. Thanks for your comments. I mentioned that I had one ordered to mate with the Tru Turn hub 1" for 91 to 120. Also ordered an adapter as recommended.

mike early................both of my .72 have the black plastic back plate. Never had any problems. Maybe some folks are warping that plate when re installing the screws. The tightening sequence is crossed and not clock wise or anti clockwise. Not too much torque.
My other Saito 100 (2) and the 120 have the aluminum back plate. A friend of mine has the .82 same thing. Sound fantastic.

Thanks!

I'm not even sure what the plastic issues are. But they come with the same warranty as all the other saitos...so that says something.
I think I will go for the .82. Maybe prices will come down soon! :P

Mike early.............go with the Saito 82, same as the 72 but has 20% more power. Love the sound of the 82. You'll be happy. A friend of mine had it on his Funtana 40. He also have another one on his Extra. I don't think there's too much of a price difference.

My Corsair won't be flying before the spring. I still have work to do on it. Meanwhile I ordered an MA 14X7 3 Blade too. I will have a Graupner and an MA to compare.

Garthwood,

The Graupnet prop has wider blades and put more demand on the engine. I have attached a pic of the engine side. It is the best I have for now. If you send me an email I could get you a better shot with the TurboHeader installed.

i wish i had not peeled off the old gasket off the cam cover and block. getting it back on with out movement of the cam or misplaced gasket was tough to do . best advice is to get cam set and use push rod to poke down the lifter each one recheck cam and install . i would have taking pic but no free hands to do that

Hi Garthwood,
In response to your question ealier about plugging the muffler pressure tap; I installed a Perry pump (VP-30) - no muffler pressure required.
So far, so good (I think, at least - this is my first 4S). Can't fly it yet- weather stinks. Maybe next week.

The VP-20 would have been a better choice, unless you have fitted a humongous carb in place of the stock carb, or your fuel tank is ridiculously high or low. The VP-30 is a terrific fuel pump, but it can be tricky to set up and to get it working properly on a four-stroke engine. If you have problems, save it for a two-stroke and pick up a VP-20 rather than chase your tail and risk losing an aircraft.

Thanks for the advice Ed - I have been told simular things before, but had the VP30. One comment of your, though, is new to me. Why do you say, "unless you have fited a humongous carb in place of the stock"?
Thanks!
ph
P.S. - You're right, it was a bit tricky to set up and it's easy to flood when starting, too!

It has been a looong time, but I vaguely remember my Aero 201 professor talking about the eliptical wing of the Spitfire being an almost ideal wing planform. The lift distribution smoothly tapers from root to tip, especially as the lift coefficient is increased. The eliptical shape also minimizes drag from losses at the tip (wingtip vortex). So, an aerodynamicist loves it.

RC
Yes, it is not a good choice for structural strength. I seem to recall that the elliptical tips did stall at the tips easily.

The elliptical tips on propellers are a good thing to have over the squared off tips in terms of prop efficiency and noise.

It is my guess, and it is only a guess, that the VP-30 might be able to pump more fuel in a given unit of time, if that makes sense.

Pearlhead, how are you powering your VP30 pump?

Thanks for your info........What if you cut a short piece of tubing to fit in the pressure tap and then plug the other end of the tubing with a plug. This way you won't ruin the muffler. Just a suggestion.

Garthwood,
Thanks for the plug recommedation. That happens to be exactly what I did. It works just fine like that. Now that I think about it, why mess with what works, right!?

w8ye,
I used this setup for the VP30. . . . (see paragraph #3)

I primarily use WC Premium Xtra in either the 10% or 15% nitro versions. I have used the Premium, but I like the extra oil (and therefore extra engine protection) of the Premium Xtra.
The only WildCat fuel at my LHS is Helimix 15% nitro/18% synthetic. Will this ok to use in my Saito 100?

It will work but you really need to add a couple ounces of caster oil to the gallon jug

You can get castor oil at the drug store or sometimes at the local HOBBY SHOP
